Resources

Here are some helpful resources that I consulted while planning this unit.

Bullying prevention program. (2010). Madison, WI: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
This curriculum on bullying has some wonderful activities. The document does a great job of giving rationale for why these activities were included, and clearly showing what grade level they are intended for. There are two sets of activities: one for grades three to five, and one for grades six to eight. The activities are well-rounded and address all of the important aspects of bullying including what it is, how to deal with it, etc.

DePino, C. (2009). Real life bully prevention for real kids: 50 ways to help elementary and middle school students. New York: Rowman & Littlefield Education.
This book is filled with fantastic activities surrounding bullying. These can be easily modified to suit a wide range of ages, and can fit in well with any unit on bullying, or just as individual activities throughout the school year. It is very well organized and complete, and includes both whole class and small groups activities.

This website is a wonderful resource for many topics in teaching, in general, but specifically has many ideas for lessons on bullying. Information can be found such as tips for students on how to deal with bullying, guidelines for teachers on how to handle bullying in the school, etc. There are links to fantastic activities that can be done with students surrounding bullying. The following is a list of links to bullying resources that can be found on the website: http://www.tolerance.org/search/apachesolr_search/bullying?filters=type%3Aactivity
